A personal exhibition of Julien Discrit will be presented at Optica in Montreal from September 1st to October 8th 2016.
In his practice of photography, video, and installation, Julien Discrit is concerned with the representation of both the visible and the invisible world, in real and in fictional places. He appropriates areal views or generates his own to explore how science and cartography enable us to define spatial environments. For any given territory, he presents those areas that are missing or blurred, imagined or altered. He seeks to show perceptible discrepancies between created images and the real territory, he manipulates the lighting, and he isolates moments and indicators of the landscape in order to generate unassignable representations.
